Question: Does Absente contain wormwood?  Does Absente contain Thujone?

Answer:
Yes, Absente contains the original and authentic Wormwood.  Absente is still made with the highest quality spirits and select botanicals from the region, now including a full measure of the legendary botanical Wormwood, also know as artemisia absinthium.

Absente contains the maximum amount of thujone based on the legal limits set by the U.S. regulatory authorities and the European Union.  All Absinthe in the U.S. market must be no greater than 10 parts per million Thujone content.

Remember, Absente, Absinthe Refined is 110 proof, so beware of the Green Fairy and please always drink Absente with extreme caution!.

Question:    Is Absente the same proof as Absinthe?

Answer:
While there are a wide array of Absinthe brands produced in Europe and Eastern Europe in the past and today, the average Absinthe can be a head-spinning 150 proof.

Our Absente, the updated version, is a much more tolerable 110 proof (55% alc./vol).

But please drink with extreme caution! We didn't leave out the Green Fairy!

Question:     How do you drink Absente?

Answer:
Much of the romance behind Absente lies in the preparation ritual.
The traditional method is to pour 1-1/2 ounces of Absente Liqueur into an Absente glass.  Place the Absente spoon across the top of the glass.  Then place a sugar cube in the center of the spoon.  Dissolve the sugar cube by pouring 3 ounces of cold water over it (through the spoon and into the glass).  Sit back and enjoy watching the mystical powers of Absente as the liquid turns emerald green, unleashing the Green Fairy.  Finally stir with the Absente spoon and enjoy!

Question:    How is the taste of Absente different from that of the original Absinthe?

Answer:
We are not sure what Absinthe tasted like in 1915, but our Absente does taste less bitter than some Absinthe brands sold in Europe today.

If you are interested in experiencing a more fuller taste than the traditional method of drinking Absente, try reducing the water. Mix 1 or 2- parts water to 1- part Absente, varying the percentage to your taste for a fuller flavor.

Question:   Will Absente make you hallucinate?

Answer:
The reputation of Wormwood as a hallucinogen was largely promoted by rumor and particularly by many of the forces seeking to demonize absinthe in the early 1900s.  It is generally regarded to be a myth. No evidence has ever shown Absinthe to be any more dangerous than any ordinary liquor.   Many argue that the real danger of Absinthe was the high alcohol content.  So we always recommend drinking Absente with extreme caution!
